“Why Me?”

This past week, a close family friend lost his prominent and public media job - to budget cuts and restructuring.

It was a job he loved and was incredible at. I can’t  fathom the varying emotions he is likely feeling - I was frustrated for him… but he inspired me with his response.

He didn’t ask, “Why me?”

He asked, “Who helped me?”

He didn’t say, “This isn’t fair.”

He said, “I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

He chose gratitude over grumbling. Optimism over outrage. Reflection on the path and people, not personal posturing….

That’s leadership.

Not loud and not super flashy - just consistent humility, grace & appreciation, even in the face adversity and uncertainty.

Sometimes the most powerful question isn’t “Why me?”

It’s “How can I honor the experiences I have had and keep serving others - even now?”
