New Year’s Resolution

Earlier this month, folks were rushing to make resolutions.  Dramatic changes and significant adjustments. Making resolutions to be different and hope that one key thing will magically turn us into a different and better version of ourselves. How’s that going these past couple weeks?

The truth is:

Resolutions often fade… Systems tend to stick.

This year, instead of “trying” to stick with a resolution, consider pivoting to choosing a North Star - a simple commitment that guides and initiates your discipline, your focus and your priorities each day. Helping you be your best for those you care about most - might be yourself, your family, your friends….

Some examples to illustrate the point:

  • One thing you will protect (your morning devotional, your daily workout or your family dinner)

  • One thing you will pursue (a skill, a habit or a relationship)

  • One thing you want to minimize (a distraction, a non-priority or a drain on your energy)

Not a resolution, but something that has the ability to fuel a daily rhythm to help you work toward your best self..

Something that has the power to set your day off on the right foot and compound into other positive things you desire for your life.

For me, that is getting up in the morning before the rest of the house and spending time in prayer, silence and investing in my body - working out, doing prehab exercises or mobility work.  When I do this, its sets off a chain reaction and the rest of my day is better… I typically eat better meals, hydrate better, have a better perspective / outlook as the day’s challenges come and sleep better at night. I want to protect this because it is meaningful to me and helps me be my best self.

People who grow the most aren’t the ones who make the biggest promises, typically it seems they are the ones that take small, simple daily and consistent action toward who they want to become.

They’re the ones who make the smallest commitments to themselves for the right reasons… and fight daily to keep them.

This movement and progress has the ability to compound.

What’s your North Star for 2026?
