Learning To Rest

I recently did something I’ve never really done before… I’m almost ashamed to admit it took me this long.
I took a full week off and headed out to South Dakota with my family. No work, no daily hustle… Just family, some hiking boots, fresh air, bison and a number of bucket list stops that reminded us of how big and beautiful the world is.

I often talk about the importance of having a purpose to guide your life and balancing what you need to do with what you want to do… but if I am transparent, I can struggle to tangibly live this out consistently. I have a natural tendency to get tunnel vision, overwork and allow my desired boundaries in certain areas of this busy life, to blur.

If you’re wired like me, you might struggle stepping away too. But just like in athletics or weight training, rest isn’t a weakness when it comes in contrast to the “work” - it’s wisdom. Often times the most productive thing you can do is pause, reflect and recover.

Grateful for the memories, the lessons and extended quality time with those I love the most. It goes without saying, we will be planning more unplugged family time in the future.

Were you able to get some time away this summer? Where to and with who?
